Good morning. It's February the first, two thousand and twenty-six. And it is a Sunday morning here in Portland, Oregon.
I'm looking out the window right now and it is raining. A light rain. Steady. The kind that just comes straight down, no drama, no wind throwing it sideways. Just a gentle, steady rain falling on everything out there.
The temperature right now at seven o'clock in the morning is forty-three degrees Fahrenheit. That's about six degrees Celsius for our friends who think in metric. And the wind is coming from the south at about nine miles per hour. You can feel it a little bit if you step outside. But it's not pushy. It's a polite wind.
And the sky. Well. There is no blue up there today. It's gray. Layer upon layer of gray, like someone hung a wool blanket across the whole sky. And I gotta say, there's something deeply beautiful about that. There really is.
Now here's the thing about today. This rain is gonna keep going all morning long. By eight o'clock we'll warm up a touch to about forty-five degrees. By nine, forty-six. And by ten o'clock we're looking at forty-eight degrees and the rain is gonna shift over to rain showers, a little more energetic. The wind is gonna pick up too, swinging around to the south-southwest at ten to twelve miles per hour.
The high today will be fifty-four degrees Fahrenheit. About twelve Celsius. With wind gusts as high as eighteen miles per hour in the afternoon. And the chance of precipitation today is ninety percent. Ninety percent. That is almost a certainty. That is the sky making a promise and keeping it. Between a tenth and a quarter inch of new rainfall expected.
Now tonight. Tonight the rain is going to ease off. We'll drop back down to about forty-three degrees. South wind seven to ten miles per hour. And only a forty percent chance of showers. So the rain takes a bit of a rest overnight.
And looking ahead to Monday, more of the same Portland character. A chance of rain showers before four in the afternoon, then partly sunny skies. High near fifty-four again. That forty percent chance hanging around like a friend who might or might not show up to the party.
So today. Get yourself a good raincoat. Get yourself a warm cup of something. Coffee. Tea. Whatever speaks to you. And step outside for a moment and just listen to the rain hitting the pavement. There is music in that sound if you let yourself hear it.
And that is the weather for Portland, Oregon on this first day of February. Have a beautiful Sunday, everybody.
